You're Unfrogettable

February 29th today.  LEAP YEAR!  What LEAPS better than FROGS?

I had to go to the archives of stamps...ones that only get used every 4 years...or so it seems.  That makes them even better to use for a leap year card!

This card reminds me of when my boys were younger and everything went into their pockets.  Come laundry time, emptying pockets,  it was unkown what would be in those pockets!  So this year, I get to Leap into being a grandmother of a little girl.  Yes, a world of pink, princesses and girlie things.

Enjoy today as tomorrow we LEAP into March!  Thanks for stopping by and I love to read your comments.

Happy Birthday Cheaters

I have some sisters that have hit or are slightly under the fifty mark.   You know that time in life where you hold things a little farther away or squint your eyes to try and make out the words.

When we get together they are all reaching for our cheaters.  I thought it would be fun to make them a birthday card with blinged up cheaters.

My sister Julie, has hit the fifty mark and she needed a card that was a little more retro.  She has cheaters in all colors all over her house!

I made a bright and wild  one for my younger sister who has not yet hit fifty but is getting close..

I love these blinged out cheater cards and I hope my sisters like them too!  Oh, I should add,   my third sister and my sister in law will get these cards for their birthday this year too!!  Do not feel to sorry for them though...I have to wear magnified glasses and my magnified glasses look like birth control glasses!!

Flowers On The Wall

Hello.  I am just recycling tissue paper today.  I have seen backgrounds with tissue paper and it provides so much texture to a card.    I have wanted to try it and am so glad I did.

Now I have seen distress ink used to color the tissue paper but I did not know if watercolors would work with it also.

I started by crumpling up my tissue paper and glueing it on the cardstock.  A sheet of tissue paper makes a LOT of backgrounds and patience to let it dry completely once glued on the cardstock is needed. Then I took a paint brush, water and aqua colors and smeared it on the stamp.  Be careful and do not get it to wet.  It stamped leaving the images on the left.  While that was drying,  I stamped and fussy cut my flowers and leaves.  Then I added brown flock to the center of the flower.  That adds lots of texture too when you only work with basically one color..shades of blue.   A ribbon was added and the completed front panel was popped up on white cardstock.   I needed a thank you card and decided to stamp the sentiment in brown to match the center of the flowers.

RAWR!

My grandson and I call each other every Monday to tell each other to watch Swamp People.  He likes to see the alligators.  Riley says they look like dinosaurs.

I thought he would really like a card with dinosaurs and it is the perfect size for him.  My favorite part of this card is the sentiment.  I think it is so cute and he will say "Oh Grandma" when he opens it!

MHK Designer Inspiration: Jerrie Mead

After the last snowstorm here, I am ready for spring!  I love spring as the new leaves slowly pop out and grow.  The first robin digging for worms.  But, the first Butterfly is always fun to see.   They are just so dainty and elegant.

Butterfly Wisdom is a great collage of butterflies.  Orange and black are such a dynamic duo to begin a card with.  The butterfly collage is colored and a few black dots are added.  I love the sentiment as it is so pretty.

Birds and Branches

Look what is new at MHK Designs!

I think of spring, the birds returning and the colors that will soon follow.  Using neutral colors, there had to be a pop of color!

If these birds could sing, there would be a beautiful bird melody in the background!!

Fresh Lemons

My son and grandson do the weirdest thing.  They will take lemon juice and drink it straight from the plastic lemon.  Yup, squeeze it right into their mouth.

When my son was around 4, I kept lemon juice in the refridgerator just for him.  It made me laugh when I saw his son doing the same thing.  I guess the lemon does not fall far from the tree.  So for my oldest son, this is his valentine.

When I saw this cute Bugaboo image, I had to use it!

It's A Grungy World

While I was making this background with my new stencil, something amazing happened.

The top background is a result of the overspray of distress sprays.  It looked so abstract, grungy and cool.  I applied glitter to the continents on the globe.  I used MHK Desings Rock My World.  I just love this globe!

I absolutely love how this card turned out.

Hot Hot Hot Coffee!

What a perfect day to take out the distressed sprays and go outside to create a HOT background!

The temperature rose with the Fired Brick and Mustard Seed spray.  A stencil was used but the negative side.  This created a great Black soot edge on one side.

Then magazine with the text became the next layer.  A stencil and distressed inks were used.  A ball point pen rimmed some of the circles and a little coffee cup was stamped inside the circle.

"Coffee" was embossed and the cup colored with Copics was fussy cut,

This cup of coffee is Hot, Hot, HOT!!

BABY BOY

Oh for the snips and snails and puppy dog tails.  The frogs in the pockets and the dirt on the faces!

I have three boys and two grandsons.  I would not trade any of them for anything in the world!

The gals at STAMPlorations are having a card link up for Deepti as she has become a new mom of a bouncing baby boy.

Since the design was bottom heavy, I just wanted a lighter design.  I took distress spray and created the splatters.  Using chipboard letters, they were colored with distress ink.  The baby was stamped, colored with Copics and fussy cut.  BABY was stamped above the chipboard letter and a diper pin was added at the top.

Fun Mail Envelope

So today in Blogland, I saw the STAMPlorations spotlight project, decorating your envelopes.  I have mailed out cards using clear mailers and have stamped an image on envelopes to match the card inside.  But, I thought, I am getting ready to send out my Coffee Lover's card and how fun would it be to send it in a decorated envelope!

I drew my address area and then used a paint brush to brush on some coffee.  Just a few drops as that is all I had left from this morning!  Then, splatters and the to go coffee cup was stamped.

What a super fun envelope to put the super fun card in.  Hope my CLBH friend likes her special delivery!!
