Happy Birthday Chickie!

I have an overflowing scrap box and it is time to reduce the overflow. Using scraps and a bugaboo image to make this fun, colorful birthday card. On the orange strip, there is a metal staple. A twine bow dyed pink and a feather dyed yellow. Sparkles were added to the ice cream come and bursts in the image.

Memories

My son, Wyatt, was in Kidnergarten and loved the story The Three Little Pigs. He found it on the first visit to the school library. Every week they would turn their books in and find a new one to check out. For weeks, he would go through the library and tell the librarian he wanted to check out The Three Little Pigs again. He would bring it home and we would read for the week and back it would go to school. After a few months, the librarian told his teacher and Wyatt he had the whole library he could pick out any book. That week a new book came home for us to read. The next week back came The Three Little Pigs.

At school conferences, the teacher told me that he keeps checking out The Three Little Pig book and the librarians think it is so cute. We chuckled and then came Valentines day. Wyatt made the teacher a little pig card and we put the saying " I like you little, I like you big, I like you like a big fat pig"!

When I went to end of school conferences the teacher had it on the cupboard above her desk and said she did not think she could EVER take down his card!!

Pens, Pencils and Stencils

Tonight is just play night. I wanted to enter a couple of challenges so I found a very old stamp set. First, I colored with Aquacolors and Copics. Then, I took an Ultra fine pen and stenciled items at the top of the card. I have never used stickles through a stencil, so, I tried it. It works great. At the knee of her dress and the plumes of her feathers, there are stickles stenciled on. To finish the card, I added a strip of paper.

Did You Ever See A Dragon Fly?

Had to dig deep today looking for my perfect pearls. I have not used these for years and thought they would be perfect for the dragonfly's wings. It is fun to see the blank piece of paper and then the transformation into a card.

I saw Shery's technique on STAMPlorations where you let the watercolor run down and wanted to try it. http://thatonelayermixedmediagirl.blogspot.com/2015/08/create-without-fear-one-layer-mixed-media-card.html

This is a fun technique and fun to see the card transform.

B is for Bat, C is for Cute

I have been doing the dreaded tssk of cleaning my craft room to regain organization. In the midst of cleaning, I ran into my scrap box. Now scraps are a funny thing. My daughter in law goes to her scraps first to find accent pieces. My sister sorts her scraps by scrap and is this big enough for a card. I, however, ignore my scrap box. I is currently overflowing and needs to be dealt with!!

I looked through the box and found these scraps. When I saw the Halloween colors, I went a little batty!

Apples for the teacher

Back to school shopping is starting as I have a ninth grader and a grandson who is going into pre K this fall. Soon we will see the yellow school busses with anxious students climbing aboard. Who can forget bringing an apple for the teacher?

Today is a card made for returning to school. A school house, apples and rulers. The stamp set is School Days from Close To My Heart.

Autumn Butterfly

Stretching my wings (metaphorically speaking) a gift bag with card is the craft of the day. I have been watching tutorials on mixed media. I have been reading blogs on mixed media. I have been buying some supplies that work for mixed media. So, I decided to do something different than a card and tried a gift bag. I decided to do a card that would match since the supplies were out.

Since autumn is comine, I decided to used browns and fall colors. I am using an ARTplorations Happy Flowers stencil, Mixed Media Grunge and Trendy Butterflies stamp set. I am also using another stencil that I do not know the name of.

Steps:
1. Mask off area for a square. Using ragged masking tape gives a rougher edge.
2. Apply Gesso and let it dry.
3. Using water soluble colors, color and blend the background.
4. Stamp written image in Distress Ink.
5. Stencil with texture paset items you would like on your bag. Let dry.
6. Color images with water soluble colors. I used gold paint on one stenciled ares.
7. Stamp butterfly in Distress Ink and lightly coat areas on the stamp with gold acrylic paint, line up and stamp butterfly on top of the
previous image.
8. For card layer and add metal embellishment.

A closer look:

The card and gift bag is for my sister, Julie. I put a metal piece with a j for her.

Dyno Mite!!

My grandson, Riley, whom just turned four loves crafting. He loves getting mail and started making cards to send out so he could get his own mail!! I received this in the mail and since Simon Says has a kid's challenge this week, it had to be added to their gallery.

You Are The Apple Of My Eye

What a fantastic job the design team at Stamplorations did this week with their inspiration project post!! I wanted to play along and CASEd Kim's card. I love the images seperated by the solid color.

I stamped rows of apples and colored them in reds and greens. Then, I made the dark brown wood looking paper at the top and seperating the apples. It was done using Mississippi McGyver's post using distress inks, glue and acrylic paint. Although it did not crackle like hers did, the next piece I tried turned out perfectly.
