Let's Try Stenciling

STAMPlorations is having an ARTplorations stencil blog hop. The challenge this month is stencils and stamps. I have never used stencils on cards before and was a little apprehensive about doing so. After looking at the design teams inspirations, and reading tutorials, I was ready to give it a whirl. I took some newsprint, a long piece to make two cards. If it turned out I would have two cards. If it did not turn out, newsprint is cheap. Using Mowed Lawn DI with a stencil and sponge applied it to the card to get the green background. Then, I took a stencil and embossing paste and picked three roses. I smeared the paste on the roses, lifted my stencil and washed it. After the paste dried, I used a sponge and colored the roses with Worn Lipstick DI. I wanted dark highlights so I directly applied the DI to the petals. I sponged some yellow around the roses. I tattered the edges of the paper and added the sentiment. Not bad for a first attempt.

Then I decided to make orange roses. I sponged Spiced Marmalade DI on the rose and then used the DIdirectly on the petals for the darker color.

Just a tip, the newsprint wrinkles with moisture. Also, make sure your newsprint is right side up!!
